Robbie – From Detachment to Engagement
Robbie has a lot of zest, perseverance, and loves to swing and jump on a trampoline. When Robbie joined Bloom360 last year, school had been a difficult place for him. In his previous setting, the inflexible schedule and classroom expectations left little room for his needs or interests and little interaction with his peers. Robbie’s parents knew there was a better way for Robbie to learn and grow at his own pace and feel a true sense of belonging. They found Bloom360 Learning Community and knew it was a learning environment where Robbie would thrive.
At Bloom, we meet the learners where they are at and focus on developing trusted relationships first and foremost. Robbie’s learning guides (a music therapist and an Occupational Therapist) built initial trust by following his interests—especially his love for the Disney movie “Madagascar.” During the class learning block, our music therapist began playing one of his favorite songs on the drums. At first, Robbie remained on the edge of the group, observing, and, free to come and go as he chose.
“In just a few weeks, Robbie went from observing to actively participating with his peers.” — Bloom360 Learning Guide
That was for the Winter Showcase, a time when the learners perform musical selections for members of the community, family and staff. Then, by the Spring Showcase, Robbie was able to sit by our music therapist and sing along to a preferred song at the piano! He was able to engage and join the group in the winter and by spring was able to do a solo number for the community!
This wasn’t just about music—it was about connection. After only a short time at Bloom360, Robbie had built a strong, trusting relationship with his learning guides, giving him the confidence to engage on his own terms. That’s the power of the Bloom360 model: meeting learners where they are, honoring their individuality, and creating the foundation for true growth.
Your support makes these breakthroughs possible. With your gift, more children like Robbie can experience a true sense of belonging (often for the very first time in their lives) and find joy in learning.
Give by December 31 to help more learners bloom!
